eva straight leg pants

Ok, let's be clear. Straight leg pants are not skinny pants, which, for many occasions, is a very good thing. These particular pants are sophisticated and are a good neutral classic to add to your wardrobe, if, like me, you are in the market for some pants that aren't in the denim genre.

If you live by a lake or ocean, I envy you. I always imagine living some alternative life where I frequently wander by the sea, flip flops in hand, wearing a skirt like this that isn't so short that I'll give all the tourists a show. And maybe I'm wearing a big floppy sunhat. It depends on the day, you know?

GIVEAWAY: haunting tree series blank cards

This Giveaway Has Ended.
Please visit our home page for information on our upcoming giveaways!

This week's giveaway is a wonderful set of 6 cards from a fantastic Etsy shop, gallery37, run by the talented Rita Summers. We're so happy to be able to offer one lucky winner these wonderful little works of art. I feel like these cards perfectly capture my mood. I've been a little solemn, a little distracted, a a little done, a little hopeful, a little reflective, a little exhausted, a little isolated, a little sorrowful, a little cautious. I love that these cards can communicate all of that to me. I love that they're blank inside because yeah, that's just perfect. There are so many times that neither the worded-for-you cards or the blank cards with the colorful patterns on the front really work, you know? Like when you need to say, I'm tired. Or, I know you're tired. Or, I miss you, but really miss you, like my heart hurts. Or, go away world. Or, can we talk? Or, can we walk? Or, can we just not?

Here's Natalie, a beautiful hand drawn paper doll for adults, complete with removable skirt and bloomers underneath for those of us who like playing with things. Love the detail, love the grace, love how the woman pulls off the crazy dress. Almost rhymed!

Love this print with a poem written on it/through it. The amount of detail is astounding, and the words and forms come together perfectly. I want this kind of peace, just for 5 minutes a day.

The giveaway runs from 11:00 PM PST today (Saturday) until 9:00 PM PST, July 2nd (Thursday). The winner will be chosen by random.org and emailed on Friday morning. If the winner does not respond within 24 hours, a second winner will be chosen.

weekend words

Hi Readers,

Phew, I'm beat. Sometimes Fridays are just those days that are so hard to get through, even harder than Mondays, because you just need the day to be over. In my case I'm too tired to go out and am trying to save some energy for a big day planned tomorrow involving a lake, a bbq, and a concert with some friends. It should prove to be a wonderful time. S is headed to the East Coast this weekend and I hope that her time manages to be...well, manageable. It's been a rocky road for some of our friends and family and we're thinking of them so much these days.

The blog is chugging along, and I think we've fallen into a good pattern, one where we're trying to take into account your suggestions, are still trying to find new stores and sellers to share with you, all without getting overwhelmed. We love having such a strong readership of people and we hope you keep your comments and feedback coming. We answer every email and every question so please don't hesitate to reach out to us about any inquiries! I know I say that every week, but I mean it.

Hm, what else. We still have some giveaway spots available towards the end of July and in August, so contact us if you're interesting in collaborating with us. We also have a couple of advertising promotions going on if you'd like to get in touch with us about ad rates.

Ah, summer. I want it to be summer weekends all the time. Who's with me?

lost

N and I promised each other when we started this blog that we wouldn't buy anything we featured. Kind of harsh, but it was the kind of thing that could out of control pretty easily, you know? And seven months and almost 1500 posts (and one pair of featured shoes bought and returned, if I am to be totally honest), this is the first thing I think I am going to buy and keep and love.

topography of a bird

I'm not really into birds because my third-grade teacher told us that if you look a goose straight in the eyes, it will run towards you and peck your eyes out and I generalized that to all birds. Except hummingbirds but their marvel-of-nature design creeps me out a little. And penguins, but it's different after you have multiple movies made about you, you know? Although I did like Swan Princess and I heard there was a sequel. Straight to video doesn't really count, I guess.

eloise and ramona on the telephone

N and I didn't meet until the middle of college. I go back and forth between thinking it had to be then for it to work the way we did or that we would have been these girls with the windows up and the cans across the backyard fence, minus flapper outfits plus childish frames. But, yeah, I don't think so. I think we were too stupid, which is good, because children are stupid (in a relative sense and of course I don't mean yours) and then we were no longer too stupid, which meant we were no longer children. Or something like that.

two scoops of ice cream sweatshirt

I'm enjoying how this sweatshirt doesn't try at all to be cool, in any way. It's got that heather gray, and the early 90s middle school gym uniform crewneck, and the scoops of ice cream are saying "hi" and "hello" to each other which is not quite reaching towards ironic hilarity, not quite at the peak of ironic hilarity, but lazily sledding down the other side of that hill, not caring that much that pompom hat this particular effort is wearing was knitted at home and chewed by the dog.

preposterous puzzle

My head hurts thinking about this puzzle, which involves taking the perfectly fitting pieces apart and then putting it together again with the addition of the little red piece. But hey, my head hurts all the time for much more annoying reasons so I guess I'm cool with this. Btw, my sense of relief that it's Thursday feeling has definitely not kicked in.

bella sunglasses

People should wear sunglasses, pretty much all the time, because what's the point of slathering sunscreen on to protect something you have at least enough of to cover your whole body and not protecting something you only have two of which is a trillion times more fragile. Also, if you don't wear sunscreen, you really should.

scoopneck sweater with puffed sleeve

This woman looks mad constipated or something, but the other woman, if you click through, looks mad disordered eating, so I went with her. I like scoopneck sweaters because you can pair them with a white button down and any kind of bottom and look stylish while covering up an unironed shirt.

micro stripe vest

I went out with some friends the other night and one of the girls was wearing a tiny tank under a vest like this, and I was like, oh is that a thing? Because it looked kind of hot. Also, let's all promise right here and now to definitely never wear it the way it is in "Wear in an Outfit" on the sidebar, because that is a ticket to the lonely land of Over Accessory.

$19.99 (from $49.50) at ATL

ruffle front crochet trim tee

Doesn't this woman look remarkably like Julianne Moore? I always think I like that movie Laws of Attraction, but I think the cinematography is just reminiscent of The Wedding Date, which is an absolutely fantastic movie, but now the castle thing is associated for me with Made of Honor which was so bad.

$19.99 (from $29.50) at ATL

marisa bootleg washed dobby pants

So for a long time I thought ATL was like Chico's or Coldwater Creek, which are places that I hope that I am bright enough to realize when it is my time to leave H&M behind for. And either they came up with an awesome marketing campaign or I matured significantly or both, because ATL is on my regular I only have 15 minutes to hop around the mall circuit and usually the place I come away clutching something new from. My bestest ATL purchase has been a pair of 19.99 jeans, which is kind of ridiculous because of how truly unexpectedly awesome they are. Really, ATL? Jeans? I totally thought it was a fluke until I took N there for some new jeans and she got a totally different pair for twenty bucks that was also awesome. Anyway, there's no denim that cheap on their site right now but go in because they usually rack it on a rack to the side. However, these pants look fantastic for the summer and I can promise you (n=2) that ATL pants are awesome.

$19.99 (from $49.50) at ATL

short red pendant necklace

I'm dedicating today to Ann Taylor Loft because I freaking love that store.

Today when I got home, the red cowboy boots I ordered in a shoe-buying frenzy last week were at my door. (My low-heel crocodile pumps and new Rainbows have already been warmly welcomed into my shoe closet.) While I was pulling them on, I was like, oh these are definitely going back. I guess this is a thing with cowboy boots (?) where the shaft is pretty loose? Maybe you need to tuck your heavy-duty cowgirl jeans in there or something? And the foot part was tight, so it was like, definitely return, do not pass Go, do not collect $200 (ok actually collect something that's not $200 but definitely isn't $20 upon return). I am a return freak, by the way. I return probably 75% of what I buy. I'm that girl who returns groceries. But then, I was like let me throw a dress on just in case I somehow decide on a different size in my next shoe-buying frenzy, which doesn't even make sense because would I get smaller for the shaft or larger for the foot? And while I was putting the dress on, my boots somehow did something magical and all of the sizing issues fell away, and I was like, oh. Am I now the owner of a pair of red cowboy boots? Maybe so. Let me tell you, though. They are ridiculous. They are mad cowboy, and they are mad red. And it would be that thing where I'd be wearing red cowboy boots. But if I kept them, I would probably get a necklace like this to go with them.

weekend words

Hi Readers,

I'll keep it short and sweet this week. We're both relieved to have this week over as it's been kind of hectic for the both of us. I'm starting some new work on Monday so while I spend the weekend cleaning the house and getting ready for a new adventure, S is headed off to a wonderful 4 day cruise. Hopefully she'll get some well-deserved R&R in before things get busy again.

We're taking a break from giveaways this week, but will start up again next Friday! Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement for these giveaways - we really feel lucky to be able to offer you these opportunities. If you're a seller or store owner and are interested in collaborating, please contact us! We have a few spots open over the next couple of months.

Any exciting plans for Father's Day? Comment and tell us what's up.

Until Monday,

N+S
